Instrument making
Instrument making
• Originals, handcrafted
• Specialised materials and tonewoods
• Development focused on tonal characteristics
Over the years I have been studying lutherie methods of developing and building string instruments. In particular, my process has two objectives: improving the tonal character of the instrument and making it comfortable for the musician. I started working with plucked instruments, mainly classical guitars and cavaquinhos, and today I also dedicate myself to bowed instruments such as violin and cello. In addition to complete instruments, I make individual parts to be incorporated by other luthiers or used in repairs.
Conservation and Restoration
Conservation and Restoration
• Application of shellac and varnish
• Colour and texture touch-ups
• Cleaning and treatment of oxidised parts
The restoration process aims to preserve the original characteristics of the instrument. The choice of methods and materials used is therefore crucial so that the essence of the instrument is not altered.
Maintenance and repair
Maintenance and repair
• Repair and replacement of damaged parts
• Replacement of tuning machines, bridges and other components
• Fret levelling
• Setups
Regular playing naturally wears down some components over time. Sometimes damage requires more significant intervention so that the instrument can recover or come as close as possible to its original character.
